PROVIDE HELP until professional treatment is received.
Psychological First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a psychological problem or in a psychological crisis. First Aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves. The aims of Psychological First Aid are to:
- Preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others;
- Provide help to prevent the psychological problem developing into a more serious state;
- Promote recovery of good mental health; and
- Provide comfort to a person suffering a mental illness.
- Reduce Societal Burden: Improving the management of work-related health risks will reduce the financial burden placed on the social and healthcare systems.
- Increase Workplace Productivity: Workers with good health generally have high levels of productivity and are able to work for longer.
- Reduce Workplace Absence: Reducing the number of workers who develop work-related health conditions will reduce the number of lost working days and contribute to business success.
